Cleopatra, the Cat of the Day
Name: Cleopatra
Age: Two years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Domestic Shorthair
Home: Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, USA

Cleopatra came into my life in November 2001. It was about three weeks after my baby girl, Sharmin, went to the rainbow bridge. I had her almost seventeen years. She was a humane society rescue. Ironically she passed on the same day my son moved out.

I went to the Ocean County Humane Society, which is recognized as one of the top ten facilities in the country. Mind you I just went to look. Cleo was so petite and there was something about her eyes that I kept going back to her. My brother says she saw a sucker when I walked in the door. She is a DSH light silver tabby. Her eyes are the color of pistachio nuts. She was one year old, but very petite only weighing six pounds. They called her Libby, but she didn't look like a Libby to me. She stands up so straight that I had to find a more regal name. It started out as Cleopatra, but she answers to Cleo. I have had her almost a year and she isn't getting any bigger. I call her my "forever kitten".

I took her home and she took over within the first 24 hours. She is a real lapcat that loves to sit or sleep with you, but does not like to be picked up. She is very playful. I was used to an older cat. She loves to be petted and lets me cuddle and kiss her, but once in awhile she gives me the look that I am over doing it and she has had enough. I know this look. It is the same look my son use to give me when he was a baby.

She likes to sit at our sliding glass door and we feed the birds, squirrels and chipmunks. We can watch them for hours. Cats are the great meditators of the world. We should take a lesson from them. I never heard of a cat dying from hypertension or high blood pressure!

I had seventeen wonderful years with my Sharmin and now I have my little Cleo to love till we all meet someday at the rainbow bridge.
