My boyfriend wanted to get me a kitten for Christmas because I grew up around cats at my home and being in college, I have been away from them. I went to a rescue society where I was introduced to Annika. Immediately I was taken with her, and by the end of the night, she picked me as her very own. She loved to pounce on anything that moved (or didn't)--her favorite game was to pounce on my feet or hands under the covers before settling down to cuddle with me at night. She also loved to climb into things, especially Coke boxes and bags. A favorite trick of mine is that I could walk Annika on a leash, as if she was a puppy. I took her to NC State University's campus and walked her around one night - it was so fun! However, somehow she managed to dislocate the end of her tail and it had to be amputated. She was a great sport about it though! The night I brought her home from her surgery, she was playing like nothing had happened! She loved to cuddle and give kisses on my cheeks and she loved strangers. What an amazing girl!

One night, though, she went to sleep and didn't wake up again. This broke my heart so much because she was such an amazing kitty (I still cry about it because I love her so much). We think that she died of a heart problem, and that it had nothing to do with the surgery. Pre-surgery blood work indicated that everything was fine inside - for all intents and purposes, she was a healthy cat. However, heart disease can't be diagnosed by blood work. I found out that she died at around 3 am (my boyfriend was catsitting her and he came and woke me up) and the emergency vet couldn't do anything. I had to bury her on Valentine's Day, which was very difficult to do, since she was my beloved kitty. She was truly special and anyone who came in her presence couldn't help but to acknowledge that.
