Two
and a half years ago, our neighbor got a call from a friend of hers.
Her friend said that some kids had found a kitten shut up in a box under
the Boardwalk by the ocean. She was not a cat person so called our
neighbor who has three cats of her own. Our neighbor could not keep the
kitten, however she is a volunteer at the local shelter so she said she
would nurse the kitten back to health until he could be adopted out. We
went over to see him. He was in bad shape. No whiskers, fur falling out,
swollen belly, runny eyes, just in overall bad shape. Anyway, our
neighbor nursed him into adoptable shape and we were the family that
adopted him. He joined our other two cats (six years old at the time).
Blackie was very wild, he would bite and scratch my kids all the time.
We just accepted him as he was and loved him as much as possible. We fed
him good food, and as you can see by his picture, he is a very handsome
guy with beautiful silky fur. He is also now our most gentle cat and is
very loving and loves his home. He is still afraid of pretty much
everyone outside of our house, but otherwise he is always in whatever
room we are in. It took almost two years for him to become the gentle,
loving cat that he is but it was worth the wait.
