Pique
(pronounced "Peeky") is a very fun cat to live with. She is
extremely friendly to almost everybody who comes to visit (except the
cleaning lady, who scares her), and she loves to play.
She came to our home almost five years ago, due to a peculiar event: our
first cat had managed to run away from home (no small feat, considering
we live in a fifth-floor apartment!) and I thought she was gone, lost in
the big city.
Eventually I gave in, looked in the newspaper, found an ad and went to
pick up a new cat. Needless to say, the first one came back the very
next day ... They didn't really like each other at first (they're both
very competitive), but now they look like the best of friends, and I
think they make each other's lives much better (and ours, too!).
One of Pique's favorite things to do is to sleep on top of the computer
monitor, where she is as I type this. It keeps her warm on cold days,
and she seems very comfortable up there. She's also a cat of habits:
every morning, at 7:30 sharp, she'll come meow at the door of the
bedroom until she's let in. And every day, when I come home from work,
she's at the door waiting for me and we have a nice chat (she answers
when I talk to her, although I have to admit that I'm not sure what she
talks about).
She also loves to hunt, and is very good at this, despite having few
chances to catch anything interesting (living in an apartment makes it
harder); she has already caught many insects, a few geckos (her
favorites!), one or two bats and even, once, a small bird, which she
dropped at the bedroom door early one morning. Her most recent "victim"
has been my foot; she loves to stay under my bed and, as soon as I sit
on it, she reaches out from under there to playfully attack me!
