Beverley, the Cat of the Day
Name: Beverley
Age: Seven years old
Gender: Female
Kind: Calico
Home: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

This is a stunning picture of my resident goddess, Beverley. She is a seven-year-old Calico, though was six when this photo was taken. What makes Beverley special, aside from her stunning good looks, is her sweet, affectionate, serene disposition. She's an "old soul", has seen it all, and nothing phases her. And when she looks at you with those green eyes, you know she loves you!

Beverley is very affectionate, and with anyone, and loves a warm lap and all kinds of physical attention. She's also extremely serene...my kids can be bouncing all over the house, and she just sits in the middle of it all, and observes. Not much for games, though she has one. I have one of those cheap little "laser pointers", and if I shine the red dot of light on the floor, and move it back and forth, she hunts it like a mouse, becomes very animated, her paws quick as lightning as they leap on the spot of light. If she "catches it", I turn off the light for a moment, so she thinks it is under her paw, then let it materialize a little bit away so she goes for it again.

She also seems fascinated with rubber bands. My morning newspaper comes wrapped in one, and if I leave the rubber band on the table, she'll bat it onto the floor, and then bat it around like prey, put it in her mouth, etc. Of course, once, she threw up and in the middle of the mess was, you guessed it, a rubber band.

She's an "indoor cat", but in spring/summer tries very hard to be waiting right behind the front door, so if anyone opens it, she darts out - makes the big escape. She only wants to go about ten feet, sit on the lawn and eat some grass, but she loves "making her escape"...

Other than that, she will go to sleep on the end of my bed, but I'll often wake up with her snuggled right in beside me, near my face. She loves to purr, and when it's time for a treat, is very "talkative," as I hear most calicos are.
