This
is Hopeless. Don't let his name fool you. He is named after his
Grandmother, Hopeless. (She couldn't find her way out of a paper sack.
Really.) Hopeless has his Grandmother's markings. Grandma Hopeless was
a childhood pet of mine. As well as Grandpa Lucky. Lucky and Hopeless
had a litter of kittens and one of them was named Cheesie. Cheesie was
sixteen, before he became a father and Hopeless was one of the kiddies.
Hopeless was living with my parents before he came home with us. When
our family visited my parents, Hopeless was always around my son, who
was born two months and ten days after Hopeless. After much begging and
pleading, my Dad let me bring Hopeless home with us. Hopeless was our
second kid. He and our son are inseparable. They are like "two peas in a
pod". They will chase each other around the house. Our son will get a
string and call "kitty, kitty" until he sees Hopeless come running. Then
our son, will take off running the other direction. The chase is on!
When our son drops the string, to go find something else, Hopeless will
pick it up in his mouth and take it to our son. He'll drop it in front
of him and lay and wait until our son picks it up again.
Hopeless is very protective of our son. When we adopted Buddy, a four-year-old
Dachshund, into our family, Hopeless wouldn't let Buddy near our
son. When our son was playing in his room, Hopeless would lay at the
doorway and when Buddy would try to go in, Hopeless would bristle and
arch his back. Buddy would turn around and go lay on the couch.
Hopeless and Buddy play together and Hopeless has learned to "share" our
son with Buddy.
Hopeless is always ready to climb in the toy box when it is dumped by
our son. Hopeless will sit on the toilet while our son gets his bath.
Hopeless usually sleeps with me and my husband at night. Cradled on his
back like a baby, with the covers pulled up to his front legs. Hopeless
has really blessed our lives! We don't know what'd we'd do without our
2 two-year-olds (Hopeless and our son) and our four year old (Buddy).
