I
moved from New York to Hong Kong in January 2004 because of my
husband's job. I brought my two cats with me and most days I would walk
down a certain street to do errands. For two weeks straight, I saw
Minnie in a pet store curled up in a cage with no litterbox or food and
only a water bottle attached to the cage (cats need a bowl, not a
bottle!)
My heart broke every time I saw her curled up in the corner of her cage.
She even had urine stains on the bottom of her white hind feet. So one
day my husband and I walked in and asked about her. From what I
understood of the woman's broken English, she said someone left her in
the pet store because they couldn't take care of her. She was an older
kitten at four months old and no one wanted her. On the spot, I agreed to
adopt her.
Since then she has continually entertained us. She jumps on the windows
to "catch" bugs on the other side as you'll see in the picture. She
hides under the bed covers when our doorbell rings. She jumps on top of
our wardrobes and hangs from them (we always have to rescue her!)
My other two cats are 4 1/2 years old and are more interested sleeping
than playing, but Minnie always tries to run by them or jump on them
to get them to chase her! We think maybe there's a language barrier
since Minnie was born in Hong Kong.
