After
growing up with and living with cats my entire life, I greatly
missed my two family cats when I moved away from home to attend university
for four years. So after my boyfriend and I graduated, we moved to Ottawa
and decided that our new apartment was the perfect place to raise and
love our own little kitten.
We embarked upon a journey one Sunday to find the perfect kitten and
after searching almost every pet store within the city (no
exaggeration!) we found Ernie at our last stop. Ernie came from the
Ottawa Humane Society, so we are unsure of his background. But what we
do know is that he has become a special part of our family.
Ernie has many interesting hobbies including watching me take showers
through the shower curtain (and sometimes falling in!), hunting hair
elastics and q-tips, and lounging in the windowsill to watch his
"birdies" for hours. He has also taken a special interest in climbing
people as if they were trees, and sleeping on my pillow with his hands
on my head. He's a real little chatterbox, talking to us constantly and
even sometimes in his sleep. Sometimes if we're speaking too loudly
during his naps he'll even wake up for a second to make a loud "meow",
as if to remind us to quiet down as he falls back asleep. He's a cute
little guy who wants to get into trouble, but sometimes he just can't
figure out how! But perhaps my favorite part about Ernie is how he's
made our house into a home. Whenever we come home he comes running to
the door, chatting away and telling us about his day. And when I'm
curled up on the couch with Ernie curled into my lap I know I've found
the perfect cat!
