Hello!
This is our kitten, Mitten. We call her Mitten or Mitty for
short. Her full name, however, is "Kitten Mitten! Kitten Mitten! Ain't
She Just Grand!" We thought she deserved a formal name as well. We
named her Mitten because the underside of her paws are black - like
little mittens.
About one year ago, we had gone out to dinner and our on way back to the
car, we found Mitten in the parking garage where she was living in a
dumpster. She was a wee tiny baby -- very skinny (you could see her
hip bones) and she walked with a limp as she had been injured (the vet
thought she had previously been hit by a car).
We gave her tidbits of our leftovers from dinner -- Mitten was so
grateful, she tried to rub against our legs but was too weak to stand up
and fell over.
We took her home and to the vet and now she is a happy, healthy kitty.
She has two canine sisters who love to play with her and they wash her
face and ears regularly.
Mitten knows how to sit, sit-up, wave and spin in a circle via verbal
request or hand signals. She's so smart!
But most importantly, she has been quite the comfort to Mom. Mom was
diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer last May. Mitten sits next to her
and keeps her company during the day while we are at work. She also
makes Mom laugh with her antics. Mom doesn't smile much these days -
but when Mom drags a feather on a string or gets out the laser pointer
to play with Mitten, she looks happy again which makes me want to cry.
Mitten can tell Mom isn't well - so Mitten caught a butterfly and
carefully carried it home (it was still alive and ok) and put it on
Mom's arm when Mom was sleeping. Mom awoke to find a pretty butterfly
sitting on her arm and it made her happy that our little kitten was
trying to be nice to her. I feel lucky that Mitten is in our lives.
Mitten is our little angel.
