Mia
is our kitten. She is very unique. Mia is unique because she is a
polydactyl. A polydactyl is a type of cat that has one or more extra
toes on each paw. Mia also suckles on only my ear at night. She came
from the Laurel racetrack and was formally a barn cat. When we received
Mia she was skinny and had many fleas and ear mites. She was in not a
good condition. She lived in a horse stall with ha covering the cold,
concrete floor. Both her and her sister had to live in these conditions.
Mia was an accident from her mother. The owner of the mother cat was not
planning on her cat to have kittens. Mia's living conditions were not
very good. She lived outside in a horse stall with a box filled with
blankets and a food/water dish.
We had been planning on getting a kitten for a while and my family had
checked out many different kittens, but they just weren't what we were
looking for. We were looking for a calico because my previous cat, which
passed away after eleven years, was a calico and she was beautiful. She
is missed. About three years went by and we were ready for a new
addition to the family. As I already said we checked out many kittens
and then we saw an ad at a local vets office that said free kittens
and the ad said that carried calicos. When we saw the add we hurried
ourselves along and called the owner of the kittens. She had said that
she had a tabby and a tortoise shell and they were both girls. Well,
when my father heard that they were barn cats he wasn't pleased, but we
forced him to make a trip down to the Laurel racetrack anyways. We were
really going to look at the tortoise shell, but when I found out
that the tabby, Mia, was a polydactyl I was so happy. The tortoise shell
was not very loving and did not enjoy being held. Mia on the other hand,
I picked her up and she didn't hesitate to start purring. We both knew
that together, we made the purrfect match. Mia came home with us.
Tootsie, our dog, gets along exceptionally well with Mia for now. But I
know that as time passes that they will grow in to liking each other. I
can imagine one day, me walking in on them snuggling together. That day
will come. Today I believe Mia is grateful that she now has a cozy, warm
house to cuddle in and a nice loving family including my father,
my mother, me, my sister, and my Schnauzer/Terrier mix dog, Tootsie.
