This
is Isalu Chinese Name: Yi Shi Lu Xiaomao Luzhong (Safe Lion Road,
Kitten in the Middle of the Road) Nicknames: Maomi (kitty in Chinese),
Mi, Mimi, Ise, Boo-Boo Kitty, Pretty Boy, Furry Purry, Purr, Purr-Purr,
Biscuit, Isamoo, Moo... (I just wuv my kitty cat!)
His eyes are blue (ranging from stormy sea to tropical sky).
Current Residency: the warm bed of a 12th floor apartment in downtown Taipei, Taiwan.
Birthplace: Hsintien, Taipei County.
Favorite Place to Sleep: either under my comforter, on computer bag, or in my backpack.
What makes Isalu (EE-sah-loo) so special? Well, he's a very intelligent
cat who knows how to get what he wants. He can push sliding windows
open and pull screen doors open with the use of his paw. He can also
carry a five-pound bag of cat food across a room, bite it open, and take out
what he wants. His favorite foods are strawberry Haagen-Das ice cream,
tandoori chicken, Camembert cheese, spring water tuna, and,
unfortunately, my former Taiwanese roommate's dried squid (which he
carried into my bedroom from the kitchen and ate the whole thing). He
drinks bottled spring water and will flip his water dish over if it's
tap water. It took me several moppings to realize this.
One could say that he's a little spoiled, but I'll, of course, deny it.
His favorite second toy is Rattles, the flying feather mouse...the first
being bread ties, which he has an uncanny sixth sense to know when
there's one lying within his reach. He loves to play Hide-N-Seek where
I will run and hide behind a wall or door and he will come running to
find me. If he can't, he will meow loudly and so pitifully, until I
start to giggle and then he will find me and stand up against the door
frame to touch me with one paw and tag me before he runs off to another
room.
I rescued Isalu as a kitten in September 2001 shortly after a very bad
typhoon here in Taiwan. He was stuck in the bushes of a median on a
busy street in Hsintien City, Taiwan. When I picked him up and I
carried him to a safe place, he wrapped his little kitten tail around my
wrist, melting my heart and changing my life forever.
