This
is the queen of the house, Selma. I found her abandoned at a gas
station when she was a kitten, maybe six or seven weeks old. She was so
frightened that I had to put her inside a box just so she could focus on
the bowl of food she quickly devoured. I took her home and she hid
behind the sofa for three days, then came out one day and jumped in my
lap like she had never been afraid.
It's been true love ever since. She is a great hunter, always elegant,
and was a great surrogate mother to another abandoned kitten we found a
year later. Selma has her self-appointed duties, which she takes quite
seriously. She helps me get ready in the morning - she sits on the side
of the sink while I shave, sits on the bed while I get dressed, and
jumps up on the dresser while I am grabbing my socks. She's the best
cat I have ever had the pleasure of knowing!
