I
met this little lady (and the say the word "lady" very loosely) one
warm summer afternoon when she was about seven weeks old. She had stumbled
her way onto my ground level apartment and began making herself very
comfortable in my home. My five year old son Lucas (at the time) and her
took to each other like they had always meant to be together. She
followed him around everywhere he went, slept in his bed every night and
was waiting for him to come home from daycare everyday. He can still
carry her around like she's the little Red haired girls cat from the
cartoon "Peanuts." It's quite comical to watch. She's always been very
tolerant where my son is concerned. But at times she does get her
revenge in the wee hours of the morning especially if she's hungry and
needs a midnight snack. Even though she doesn't have thumbs, she can
still find a way to open the cupboard door where her food is. The
problem is, she can't get a very good grip on the door, therefore it
bangs shuts until such time as someone (namely my boyfriend) wakes
up...and satisfies her appetite. I'm convinced that in a previous life,
she must have been a vulture because on many occasions I've found
her hovering over me whether she's perched on top of the fridge or the
vent above the stove.
I know she loves living with us though because of the multitude of
"gifts" she likes to present us with...be it live dew worm (the big,
squishy kind), live rats (the ones that get away) or half eaten spider.
These she will present proudly. She is a permanent member of our family
and fits perfectly into our quirky lives... who woulda thought eh??!!
