This is my sweet adorable cat, Feather. My first cat, Storm, was nearly sixteen when she passed away on October 21, 2002. I could not bring myself to replace her for a full year. On October 30, 2003, I went to the local animal shelter with my father, who was visiting. I wanted to finally get another cat for the company and love we would share. I looked at the selection in the kitten room, and even toyed with the idea of taking home brother and sister kittens. But none of the kittens really appealed to me very strongly. I almost simply went home. But then I stepped into the hallway and on a lark, decided to look in the "cat" room.

I knew that cats have a harder time getting adopted: many people think they're "not as cute," as kittens, and can be set in their ways, or have "history." But I decided to give them a chance.

Many of the cats were not as old as I had expected them to be. I had been expecting three-, four-, five-year-old cats, or even older. And many of them were as adorably cute as any kittens! I began trying to narrow down which ones I thought were most attractive, and soon had a group of three or four in mind. Feather (who was named "Candy" at the time) was immediately in the running. Her card said she was brought in as a stray; her age was approximately seven months; and she had been brought in on the first anniversary of Storm's death!

I actually picked a really adorable Calico at first, after some deliberating. I had even begun filling out paperwork for her, and then suddenly I remembered Feather! I apologized to the shelter assistant and informed him that I had changed my mind. Feather was just beautiful! Irresistible! She reminded me of snow, which is something I miss now that I live in Florida. I had to have that soft gray creature to be able to cuddle and gaze at full-time!

I took Feather home over a year ago. She is still pretty young and still has her energetic, rambunctious side, that's for sure. I come home from work late at night just in time to see her work off steam! She's a little silver streak jetting back and forth across the entire house! She looks really funny when she gets herself excited and her tail puffs out and a ridge down her spine sticks up! She can be a handful, and gets into everything! I love her like crazy!
