This
is one of our cats. His name is Patrick O'Toole. He was born to a
stray cat that a friend of ours adopted and we adopted Patrick O'Toole
and his brother. Patrick loves to eat broccoli and cabbage as well as
corn on the cob. He will carry a whole ear of cooked corn around and
then proceed to eat every last corn kernel off the cob. Patrick
O'Toole loves to have his tummy rubbed.
Besides loving cooked vegetables including eating corn right off the
cob which seems uncommon for a cat, he likes to jump three or four feet
up into the air to catch catnip mice that I toss down the hallway to
him. He is quite the acrobat. He takes good care of his brother,
Bear. He washes Bear and they sleep together with Patrick O'Toole
hugging Bear.
When we first got Patrick and Bear, they were only six weeks
old. Our third cat, Tigger, was not too welcoming and kept hissing at
the new arrivals. But Patrick O'Toole figured out how to win over
Tigger. Patrick flipped upside down so that all four of his
legs were sticking straight up into the air and he slid on his back all
the way across the room towards Tigger as if to say, "Tigger, you are
in charge here and we are not trying to take your place." Bear, seeing
what his brother was doing proceeded to flip upside down with
all four legs up in the air and he followed his brother and slid on
his back across the floor towards Tigger, stopping only once to look
over his shoulder to see if Patrick O'Toole was still sliding across
the floor , which he was. Once they both reached Tigger they just sat
next to him and Tigger stopped hissing at them and now Bear and Patrick
O'Toole are Tigger's good friends and companions.
Patrick O'Toole has what I call a double jointed tail. He can fold his
tail flat against his back. He loves running water and we turn the
faucet on in the bathroom sink and he sits in the sink and plays with
the water. And he likes to watch me cook. There is a small washstand
against one of the kitchen walls and I let him sit up there while I cook
so he can see what is going on. If he is doing something he is not
supposed to do and I scold him, he talks back to me. He is very verbal.
When I make a new catnip mouse for him, he sits by the sewing machine
patiently waiting for me to finish sewing the mouse. Patrick O'toole is
very affectionate and likes to cuddle up with us when we are sitting
down. He also likes to tear up small cardboard boxes into little
pieces by getting a hold of the side of the box with his teeth and
tugging on it until he succeeds to tear off a quarter-sized piece. He
will bite off twenty to thirty quarter-sized pieces at a time. Makes
for a mess but it is fun for him, so it is worth it!
