Auggie
came to me on August 1, 2001, and in trying to come up with a
name suitable for his royal highness, it occurred to me that, since he
was royalty, the word august applied to him, hence the pun of his actual
name, August I, which is pronounced "au-GUST The First."
Auggie is typical of the siamese breed regarding his personality and
his vociferous meow which he uses freely to be sure you never forget his
presence! One thing about him which is very unusual for a cat is that he
is clumsy! Not that this detracts from his loveableness; in fact, it
makes him all the more sympathetic. You see, he has a trait not
unfamiliar to his breed. He is very cross-eyed, and when he moves
quickly, it seems that he sometimes misjudges things a bit as he misses
and missteps or falls. He also gets into some of the weirdest positions
I have ever seen a cat get into.
And, finally, being very allergic to cats in general, it is very
fortunate that, for some reason, I am not allergic to him! It is sad
when someone who loves cats is so allergic to them that it is impossible
to be around them. Finding Auggie with his particular combination of
traits was a gift from God to me at a time when I really needed a
friend, and I dread the day anything happens to him, as he has gained a
very special place in my heart.
Unfortunately, he was recently diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a heart
condition which can severely shorten a cat's life. If you find it in
your heart to say a prayer for my little Auggie, please do so, and both
Auggie and I thank you.
