I
am convinced that Spot, a.k.a. Spotster, is the unofficial ambassador
of the feline world. Her mission in life is to make friends with
everyone and everything and to convert anybody who does not like cats,
into a cat-lover (or at least someone who likes cats a little bit). She
has a long list of converts to her credit, including my husband, a
self-described "dog person". In a room full of people, Spot
instinctively knows who does not like cats and will jump on their lap in
an effort to convert them. In the photo above, Spot is sitting in our
garden by the front door waiting to greet anyone who may stop by,
whether it is the gardener, the mailman or a salesperson. Once she even
tried to make friends with a deer that wandered into our garden.
Always a sponge for attention, Spot will hound me mercilessly when I am
sitting at my desk trying to work at the computer or when I am in the
bathroom. She'll even meow at me when I'm in the shower, wondering when
I will come out to pet her. At night, she loves to pin me down in bed by
placing her two front paws on top of me as if to say 'You're not going
anywhere unless I say so."
Spot is so cute that I usually can't resist giving into her demands for
attention. She truly is a special cat.
