We
first thought Panda was a girl, because he was only two days old when
we first laid eyes on him. His litter had been abandoned in North
Philadelphia, and after many attempts to get the local rescue shelter to
respond, we finally choose to take the litter to our house and hand
raise them. I had little experience bottle feeding small kittens, and
Panda was part of a litter of four that to be fed every two hours around
the clock. It was in those first days that I really began my bond with
Panda. I felt like his mother as he stared into my eyes during his
bottle time. As he grew up he took to the habit of following me around
the house just inches behind my heels. After his brothers and sisters
were adopted out to homes, I took it upon myself to be his new play
mate. His favorite game was hide and seek. It usually consisted of me
hiding behind the door and him jumping at me.
He grew into a laid back cat who was very used to getting attention. He
sleeps above our heads, wakes us up by walking all over us, and prefers
to spend his days catching flies and sleeping. The cutest thing about
his appearance has to be his white mittens and boots, but even cuter is
his endless fascination with his back paws. He always proudly displays
them to any visitor we have in the house, and of course has made it a
habit to stick them in my face when I am laying near by.
