My
name is Bear, but I'm also called Little Bear, Big Bear, Baby Bear,
Bear Belly, and Big Girl. I share my home with three other cats, and
there are two more cats outside that my mom and dad have adopted. We
were all abandoned by our mothers outside in the woodpile and garage at
different times during the last nine years. I always hear the outside
cats talking about how this house is the place to go if you're hungry.
They called me Little Bear when they found me because I was so small and
looked just like a bear. Mom and Dad bottle-fed me because I was only
about a week old when I was found with my brother. I sure didn't like to
eat very much when I was little, but I have since made up for lost time,
since I now weigh fifteen pounds. Now when I eat, I just lay in the food bowl
because it is so much more convenient.
As you can see from this picture, I love to lay on the back of my mom's
chair. When it's cold, I also like to lay on an available lap. With
three cats as competition for the laps, it's kind of hard sometimes to
claim a lap of my own. But when I do, I spread out as far as I can so no
one else can even think about taking my spot.
I also love to lay under the computer desk because that's when my dad
gives me belly rubs with his bare toes. He also does that when he is
cooking breakfast, so now I run at lightning speed whenever I hear him
go into the kitchen in the mornings.
My other favorite things to do are hiding and playing. I like to hide in
the house, especially when that loud vacuum cleaner comes out. I hide so
well that Mom and Dad spend hours looking for me, but then I slip out of
my secret hiding spot so they never know where I've been.
My favorite toys include hair bands and rubber bands. I love playing by
myself, hanging over a straight-back chair and tossing and catching
those hair bands for hours. Paper balls are also great fun to chase,
along with the feathers on the fishing pole.
I am one lucky kitty to live inside with my brothers and sister and
humans who love me. We have lots to eat, cozy places to sleep, and they
even let us out on the screened front porch all the time. After much
training, they have learned that when we ring the bells hanging on the
front door, it is time to let us back inside.
Time to go - I have catch up on my eating-sleeping-playing-hiding-eating...
