When
I first saw Miaow she was no bigger than my palm, in a kitchen
corner, angry at the world. Her tiny little feet were planted wide
apart with her ears back - at three weeks old she was a very sick, very
unloved waif. I was told that she probably wouldn't survive the week
and, as the runt of an 'accidental' litter between two purebred show
cats, she really wasn't worth the bother anyway. I took her home
regardless, gave her a plush velvet cushion and set out to make her last
week on earth as loved and happy as I could.
That was three years ago and now Miaow owns a house and a human all of
her own. She has her own TV (my fish tank), her own jungle (my beloved
plants) and her own ideas on when she should get fed. Far from being
the sickly little mite she started off as, Miaow now competes nightly in
the 3am Hallway Cat Olympics - her best events being the 'stalk and
pounce' and the 'standing leap up a wall for no reason.' My ankles are
her favorite toy and she regularly forgets that she is cat-sized and
that I am bigger (or maybe she just doesn't care!). Every day I wake
up laughing, usually to Miaow sleeping with her head in my shoe (did I
mention her weird shoe fetish??). I'm thankful I didn't listen to an
uncaring 'breeder', but listened to my heart. Miaow rocks my world!
