Sophie
is an absolute love! She's a girly girl with a very sweet little
voice that she uses quite often. Whoever said Scottish Folds were quiet
obviously hadn't come across Sophie! She just loves to talk to people
who talk to her and admire her. Her vocalizations are humorous, since
she usually coos, chortles, and snorts as accents to her cute little
meow. One of her nicknames is Sophie Snort Snort because she snorts all
the time! It's quite comical! She also has a tendency to sneeze
whenever she eats or investigates something by smell since her nose is
so tiny. She'll smash her little nose up against the item she is
investigating, which almost always creates a sneezing storm! As a
result, I find little sneeze marks on our floor from time to
time... little Sophie marks!
Sophie has a very distinctive, quirky personality. She is a
natural-born comedienne and does some of the funniest things I have ever
seen a cat do. She walks sideways like a crab when she wants affection,
and she also does a little sideways dance which is very peculiar (but oh
so cute). Quite often I have to move slowly and speak gently to her
when I am passing her in the hallway, otherwise she will freak and bolt
away. Get her warmed up, though, and she will not shut up! She will
insist on being petted!
Sophie loves shiny things, lights and reflective surfaces. The sun's
reflection on a glass will send her into play mode. She also loves
laser toys and will chase the laser beam for a long time, then she'll
start snorting from all the activity, adding to the comic value of laser
play time. Of course this is the only exercise she likes, since she is
a rather sedentary cat. She is in love with mirrors and will prance
around in front of them, while meowing and rubbing up against them.
Perhaps she is secretly admiring herself when she does this, because she
never fails to pose in front of any low mirror! Sophie also loves to
have her picture taken and will pose for many shots.
Sophie is very gentle and reserves all of her sassiness for her
"brother" Taiko, who is a platinum Burmese who has a tendency to pick on
her. At times, if she is somewhat sleepy and in an affectionate mood,
she likes to nurse on my t-shirt, but only while I am wearing it! I've
known other wool-suckers, but this little girl insists on nursing on
items while I am wearing them! It's very cute and allows us to have
bonding time together.
All in all, Sophie makes me laugh and gives me great joy. She is a real
sweetheart!
