Meet
Collette, my lovely companion cat. She was born in a recording
studio in Washington DC, the offspring of a stray orange tabby and a
Maine Coon cat. (One of her legs is orange, so we like to say "she has
her mother's leg.") She flew cross country with me when she was six
months old and is now a content Angeleno. (She's strictly an indoor
kitty, although she enjoys looking out her window at all the other pets
in the neighborhood.)
At eighteen, she spends a lot of her time sleeping, but when she's awake, she
plays like a kitten-especially if there's a thick rubber band or a Q-tip
involved. She will practically do backflips for a bite of tuna (she
prefers the house brand at Trader Joe's). During the day, she sleeps in
her own bed, but most nights she curls her tail around her eyes like a
fox and lies down on the end of my bed.
Although she is affectionate, she is particular about who she lets pet
her. If she doesn't like someone, she'll hiss and spit like a crazy
cat. If you're one of her favored, she'll rub her soft head against
your hand until her demands for a pat are satisfied. (People are always
disappointed when they "don't make the cut.")
To know her is to love her.
