I
adopted Kurly from a cat shelter where I volunteered last summer. She
is my first kitten, and a wonderful little girl! She is almost
completely black with a few white hairs. We think she may be part Rex or
Burmese. She was a bit shy when we first brought her home, and she loved
to hide in my dollhouse or on the mousepad, but since then she has
learned to take charge of the house. In the beginning she was
overwhelmed by my furry white dog, Juneau, but now he and she are good
friends. They often take turns chasing each other around the house. When
he is asleep, she will sneak up on him and pounce, attacking his fur as
if he is one of her toys.
I have acknowledged the fact that Kurly is the supreme princess of the
world, and she asserts her rule by drinking milk right out of my cereal
bowl at breakfast and stealing my chair to sleep on all day. She is very
playful, and will have fun with anything, from a pen, a piece of string,
or a feather, to my hair or hand. She can be quite a biter, and loves to
nibble on my fingers. Kurly was originally a feral cat born in the wild,
and I can see she has never lost her hunting instincts. She pounces on
any insects that may have entered her domain, and jumps many feet
straight up in the air to catch them. Kurly reminds me of a dog in many
ways, for she occasionally drinks out of the toilet and steals chicken
wings. Although I never had a kitten before Kurly, now that I have one,
I couldn't imagine life without her.
