Buddy
was the a neighbor's indoor cat who had been kicked out of the
house in late November, and forced to endure below freezing
temperatures. The owners let it be known that they wouldn't mind if
someone took Buddy, so my boyfriend brought him home. Not wanting to
change his name too much, he simply changed it to Mr. Buddy Holly.
Mr. Buddy Holly is not a pet in the house, but more the king of the
castle. He has his favorite places to lay in each room where he can keep
an eye on all the other inhabitants at all times. He's quite playful
and loves to stalk people and jumps out to scare you when you're walking
from room to room. If you happen to drop the recycled grocery bags down
the stairs, he'll run down after them and bring them back up to you as
if you dropped them by accident. He enjoys patrolling the attic to
ensure no uninvited guests have moved in. When he's done, he comes down
the attic stairs and does a final splash down onto the waterbed. He
prefers to drink from the sink while the water drizzles down onto his
head, then comes to bed with standing water on his head to have it
rubbed in. He's even learned how to turn on the water in the tub to get
his head wet on demand.
In his first spring in his new home, Mr. Buddy Holly became friends with
the next door neighbor kitty, Mr. Kipper. The two would share a plate
of treats on the front porch and walk around together in the front yard.
After a tragic accident took Mr. Kipper, he was buried between the two
houses. Mr. Buddy Holly often goes over to the grave site and sits at
the base to visit his lost friend. Mr. Buddy Holly is such a wonderful
cat and we're forever grateful to have him in our lives.
