This
is my baby, Leo. He came into my life on December 30, 2002 right
after I had my fourteen-year-old purebred Persian put to sleep a few days
before on December 26. I really wanted to get a new cat right away, and
I fell in love with Leo at our local Humane Society. He was a little
stray about four months old who had just been turned in to them. A
funny story is that they told me "he" was a "she" and I called him
"Celine" for a few days until I took him to the vet for his well-kitty
checkup. I didn't even question it. Boy, was I surprised to find out
my little "girl" was a "boy!" Needless to say, a new name was in order.
I am a polio survivor who just recently retired on a disability, and Leo
is my constant companion, since I am single. He is such a total
delight, the best cat I could ever imagine! And he is so different from
my Persian, who was very quiet and not very sociable. He was a little
haughty, I think because he knew he was a purebred Persian! He was also
a holy terror at the vet's, to say the least! My Leo is quite the
opposite. He is so loving and friendly, even at the vet's, and he's
smarter and very vocal. He talks to me all the time and greets everyone
who enters our domain with a loud kitty "Hello" and approaches them to
be petted. The only two people he doesn't like are my cleaning lady and
the apartments' maintenance man. He will always go into a hiding
whenever they are around. I can't really figure out why. Everyone
comments on his beauty, especially his champagne and white coloring and
his big, bushy tail.
His favorite past-time is sitting in the window and observing all the
activities outside of our apartment. He is just like a child because he
will often get in my face when I am talking on the telephone and
sometimes "meow" as if to say "Who are you talking to?" My sister
perfectly summed up the difference in my relationships with Leo and my
previous cat by saying that the Persian was my "roommate" and "Leo" is my child.
