My
name is Popie, I am in my "sleeping bowl." When I was about six months
old I was found on a 3rd floor window ledge of an office building. The
windows there didn't open, so the fire department had to rescue me. No
one knows how I got there.
The human I adopted whisked me to his house to take care of me. I was
bathed and groomed, and taken to the doctor the next day for all my
tests and shots.
I love my human and usually sleep on his desk while he's working. I
play with my four adopted siblings and sleep in my bowl when I get tired.
Popie is one of the most affectionate cats I've ever had, and I've had
cats all my life. When I took her from the arms of the fireman who
rescued her, she immediately nestled in my arms and began purring,
gazing up into my eyes. Although we have four other cats whom she plays
with (mostly hide and seek, and tag and chase), she spends most of her
time with me, laying in my lap if I sit in my lounge chair, or laying on
my desktop when I'm working and tries to help me turn the pages of my
books. :-)
She is infamous for stealing my pens and pencils and hides them after
she finishes playing with them. She also steals and hides paper money!
We probably have over a hundred cat toys, but Popie prefers to play with
household items like bottle caps, twist ties, paper clips, etc. She
knows how to open the door to the cabinet where we keep the large bag of
dry cat food, and she helps herself if she thinks there's not enough in
the bowl! When we dish up the canned food in the morning and at night,
Popie is the only one of our cats who eats with her paw. Each cat has
their own bowl, of course, and while the others are all chowing down,
Popie is sitting demurely in front of her bowl, scooping up a mouthful
of food with her paw and feeding herself!
When I take my morning shower, Popie is always there and soon pushes the
sliding glass door open and joins me in the shower. After she's gotten
herself as wet as she cares to be, she hops up on a seat in the shower
and grooms herself. She especially likes having her feet wet. Of
course, we really love all of our cats, but Popie is probably the most
individual of the lot. You can tell she feels very secure in her new
home, as she can frequently be found lying flat on her back on the floor
or counter with her back legs open and her front legs folded on her
chest. She's a real sweetie!
