In
the early summer of 2004, my brother told the family of a cat walking
around the yard. The cat immediately trusted my brother, weaving through
his legs, purring happily, and allowing him to scratch her and pick her
up. She was skinny with no collar or identification, so my brother asked
around if the cat belonged to anyone. Nobody did. The cat led my brother
into our woods in the back yard where five newborn kittens lay, three orange
tabby, one grey tabby, and one tortoiseshell calico. Their eyes weren't
even open yet! My brother and the rest of the family decided to give
shelter to them, using an old cat carrier because it was going to rain
that night. We eventually named them all and the mother is named Sarah.
Sarah trusted the family before we even adopted her. Almost instantly
after we gave her the carrier she moved her babies into it. After a week
she moved them on top of our deck, later into our garage, later in front
of our kitchen window, and when it was time, into our house.
Sarah is such an amazing cat. She is one of the best hunters ever! We
would call her Sarah, Miss Huntress of Sharon. She passed her hunting
skills down to her grey tabby son, Simon. Together they hunt mice,
birds, moles, bats, frogs, you name it! Of course she has never brought
any of it into the house, she is far too polite. She is also quite playful
and absolutely loves to be scratched under her chin. She is very sweet
and very lazy, but we love her! We currently have her, her son Simon,
and her two daughters Tigger and Spot as pets. Her other two kittens we
gave away to a loving family. You can see pieces of Sarah in each of her
kittens and she raised them very well. She is an amazing mother, pet,
and she is family.
