Molly
has a very special rescue story. We were on a mini-break to
Dayton, Ohio. We had already stopped by the Aviation Heritage Park and
had checked into our bed and breakfast. On our way out to dinner, out
from under the table on the porch walks this little, dirty, scrappy
black cat! She was so friendly and sweet and let me pick her up. We said
hello for a little bit and the owner of our B&B commented that she had
never seen that cat before. We went to dinner and thought little else of
it, except that I was worried about a stray cat, that she would starve
or be hit by a car. We came back to our B&B later that night and the
little cat sat in my lap and purred and purred and purred. The B&B
owners were kind enough to set out food for her, and give her an
"Advantage" for fleas and ticks. She slept the night on the porch and I
went to bed knowing that little cat would go home with us. We went to
the Air Force Museum the next day and on our way out of town stopped by
the B&B and picked up the cat. She was named "Molly" the night before
and Molly slept the 4 hours back to Stow, Ohio in my lap (on the premise
that we would take her to the Humane Society - ha!).
Our other two cats, Samantha and Violet were pretty upset with the
addition to the family. Molly went to the vet and was given a clean bill
of health, and an appointment to be spayed. We were in the process of
moving to Maryland for our new teaching jobs, but that didn't seem to
bother Molly. We drove two cars, and Molly either sat between the
suitcases on the backseat of my car, or (most of the time) cleaned and
slept between my legs for the 6+ hour drive to our new home in Maryland.
Boy, is it hard to drive stick shift with a little black cat in your
lap!
Molly is another member of the family now - and a big trouble maker. She
loves to shred toilet paper and dig in the house plants. She also starts
fights with the other cats, beats up stuffed animals, tears open trash
bags and steals food (little alley cat!). However, she makes it all up
when she sleeps with us, correction: on us every night, purring so loud
that she wakes us up. We're glad that this little cat stole our hearts
and another street cat is in a safe home. We wouldn't trade her for
anything!
