The
beautiful cat shown above is indeed a heavenly creature. Ginger
came into my life as a gift from a dear friend. We had seen Ginger
sitting patiently in a cage at a local pet store, and after several
weeks of cooing over her she came home to live with my other two cats,
Kiwi and Sonic. As unhappy as the "girls" were about her appearance on
the scene they were quickly won over by her disposition.
You see Ginger was very special, she was born with a congenital liver
shunt defect and my vet told me not to expect her to make it for very
long. He had never seen such elevated liver enzymes. Although crushed,
I vowed to make whatever life she had as happy as possible. My time
with her was the best. She would sit for hours in my lap or in my arms.
She had to sleep on my shoulder with her cheek resting on mine, and she
purred even in her sleep. On good days she would play with her new
sisters or with anything she was given.
Her appetite was incredible, but she had trouble maintaining her weight.
About two months ago, I knew she was miserable, so after much soul
searching and a discussion with my vet I decided that it was time to
let her go to heaven. The thought of her suffering just so I could have
her with me was too much.
I was with her at the end, and she is with me every minute of everyday.
She was a gift from heaven and now resides there watching over me.
