We
adopted Shadow when she was just over a year old. She is a Nebelung
(longhaired Russian Blue cat). She had been at the shelter since she was
a tiny kitten. She had been in a 3ft x 3ft cage the whole time. Since
she had never been in a home, they warned us that she probably would
never be affectionate or be a "lap cat". We fell in love with her
anyway. She hid for a while when we first brought her home and hissed
when we walked by, but after a couple of days she let us pet her and she
became more comfortable every day since then.
Now, months later, she follows me around everywhere and rubs against my
legs the whole time. She wants to be petted every moment of the day. So
much so that she tries to wake me up all night just for a little pat.
So much for her never being affectionate! She loves to play with all her
toys and look out the window and doors at the feral cats in our
neighborhood. She protects our house and she "chases" the cats away
when they come too close to our doors. She seems very appreciative that
she gets to be indoors in her very own house where she can roam free.
She has increased the joy in our house tremendously. I cannot imagine
what we did for entertainment before we had her.
We hope our Shadow knows just how much we love her.
