Benjamin, the Cat of the Day
Name: Benjamin
Age: Four years, Ten months old
Gender: Male
Kind: Cat
Home: South Barrington, Illinois, USA

Benjamin is our spunky miracle kitten, all grown up. He was rescued from a downstate IL home overrun with too many cats and kittens in 2001, sent to a shelter in Chicago, and eventually to a local shelter near me. That's where I saw him in his cage, all alone and obviously sick. I asked to hold him, and he clung to my shoulder. The rest is history. His right eye was swollen shut and he had a bad cold and only a 50% chance of surviving, the vet said, all at the age of six weeks.

Gradually, he got better and his right eye is totally normal today, as you can see. He isn't a tuxedo cat, I read, but a black and white "cow" cat due to his mainly white body, black saddle and tipped "beret' cap. There is a comical white "skunk-stripe" down his back.

Benjamin is spunky and brave, nippy when I forget to feed him on time, sweet as sugar other times, loves his dry kibble and faucet sips from the bathroom sink, ear rubs, and chasing our very aged dog and swatting her tail. He is very quiet at night.

He mainly sleeps all day in a heated cat bed in the kitchen, or he sits sphinx-style on the counter, watching me with wise green eyes.
