Tina
was originally rescued as a kitten from my daughter's junior high
school; the principal had discovered some kids teasing this little
kitten, and I found a staff member holding her in the hall as I came to
the Winter Band Concert. She was adorable and it was love at first
sight! Shortly after joining us, she was "lost" and found in a sock
drawer, having slept there overnight, packed in with the socks, without
a mew! As a kitten, she was incredibly athletic, throwing herself high
in the air in daring somersaults in response to a waved ribbon.
She was my daughter's dear friend who followed her everywhere, purred
all night long; she was famous for her phrases, uttered in an imaginary
chirpy voice, "I don't care!" "I don't want to!" "I don't like it!"
"No!" - and never did pass the Kitten Intelligence Test. We always said
she had possibly two brain cells, which were easily overwhelmed...
Tina was one of the most beautiful cats I ever knew, and I hope you can
see it in the photo. She loved to seek out baskets to curl up in, loved
to wrestle with her friend Sasha-cat, loved to be cuddled and kissed,
loved my teenaged daughter, loved to meet strangers and see new things.
Unfortunately, those two brain cells got the better of her at last. She
got out the door without our knowing it, and was hit by a car, somehow
losing her collar in the process. Someone found the collar and called
us, and I started searching for her. It turned out she was under a
neighbor's house, and my daughter wriggled into that crawl space and
Tina butted her poor injured head against her beloved girl in
recognition and gratitude. My daughter brought Tina out safely - but
tragically, she had multiple skull fractures and other injuries, and
could not be saved. We are thankful that we found her and could end her
pain and suffering after she was injured. We miss her very much.
Every time I find something that needs doing that I don't want to do, I
hear the imaginary "Tina" voice in my mind, saying, "I don't want to! I
don't care!" and think of our darling little fluffy-cat. So she will
live in our memories.
