This
is little ghetto princess Tigger. She's a princess because
she's spoilt, beautiful and behaves like a thousand dollar Siamese pure
bred (not like the little multi coloured tortie she actually is) and
ghetto because she was rescued from a cardboard box at the bottom of a
garden in a nasty neighbourhood where she had been abandoned with her
siblings when they were only days old.
They were rescued by an animal shelter and by the time we showed up she
was the last one left. She charmed us from the start and seemed
determined to melt our hearts. She was so full of energy and life, as
soon as she was let out of the cage she ran circles around the room,
jumping and climbing over everything and it took ages to get her back in
the box so we could take her home... even a start in life like hers
couldn't dampen her spirit.
She's such a special girl because despite her less than salubrious
roots, she is a perfect little lady and welcomes all visitors with a
very friendly rub up against their ankles. She is also a dreadful flirt
and thinks she is the most beautiful creature on earth, she has cheeky
lopsided markings on her face which give her a permanent quizzical
expression and utterly disarm everyone who meets her. She is incredibly
talkative and will sit for hours peeping, mewing and squeaking to anyone
who will listen.
Despite being quite girly she is also utterly fearless and can often be
found chasing the pigeons on the rooftops, hiding up the tallest tree
she can find or protecting her castle from the other cats in the street.
Most of them are male and twice her size but she's feisty and doesn't
let that put her off. All this running around gives her quite an
incredible appetite and she loves to try new flavours. Her all time
favourite supper is roast chicken and ice cream after which she likes to
recline in her cat hammock for a few hours before her night watch
starts.
She loves to chase birds, watch the world go by from her perch in the
window and play games - her favourites are the simple ones... 'stick'
and 'string' are right up there but playing catch with little pieces of
gravel is her favourite. She sits up and catches them delicately between
her front paws then puts them down in a little heap next to her which
she guards with her life. She also loves to play fetch with balls of
paper which she picks up and brings back.. I sometimes think she thinks
she's a dog!
I don't know what I would do without my furry alarm clock jumping on the
bed and chattering in my ear every morning. Life would definitely be a
lot less fun without the fluffy Tigster around.
