Ranger, the Cat of the Day
Name: Ranger
Age: Four and a half years old
Gender: Male
Kind: Maine Coon
Home: Alameda, California, USA

What makes him special? Besides being a loving, beautiful, and spoiled kitty, he was the lone survivor of a litter of four. Therefore he is called the "Lone Ranger" (Ranger for short).

Ranger is a very shy cat with regard to strangers, but extremely affectionate with his "dad" and "mom." He is quite cuddly and loves to lay on "dad" or "mom's" lap.

One unique characteristic we have noticed is his use of mirrors. He will sit in front of the mirror and watch everything going on behind him. He loves to sit on the bathroom counter, with the tap water running, and watch himself play in the stream of water. The coffee/cocktail table in the living room no longer has anything on it, as one of his "fun" things to do is run like crazy from across the room, jump on the table, and slide across it and jump off the other side. He has a custom-built ladder going up to a "plant landing" that he loves to climb and then lounge looking down at everything. He also will throw his toys off onto the floor below and want you to toss them back up to him. We have a walled-in patio area and let him go outside (with supervision), but he will go to the door and scratch and "speak" to go out. We, of course, think that is very smart. He is afraid of the garbage trucks, and will hide under the bed, but is not afraid of any other truck coming around. He knows the sounds of the cars and will be crying at the door before the garage door is even opened.

He eats quite a bit of "people" food as well as his cat food. He loves vegetables, particularly green beans and cooked carrots. He will usually try anything we have for dinner just to see if he likes it. There hasn't been much he didn't like.

He always gets a birthday party. This idea actually came from a friend of ours who always gives his dog a birthday party. We have pictures of him licking the frosting off his birthday cake, which is actually just a cupcake "frosted" with veal baby food.

He really doesn't know any tricks, other than how to make "dad" and "mom" get him what he wants.

   Spoiled?? I guess!
