Flutter, the Cat of the Day
Name: Flutter
Age: One year old
Gender: Female
Kind: Short Hair Torbie
Home: Reading, Pennsylvania, USA

I've had fosters come and go (many might claim not as many went, since quite a few remained permanently in my home). I swore I would make it through kitten season last year without keeping any of fosters. Oh yeah, I was determined! Then Flutter, well, fluttered into my life. She fluttered because she was a very special kitten indeed: she only has three legs. The fourth leg was only half a leg and when she walked, her back leg fluttered in the air.

From the first moment I met her, I knew I had to break my promise about keeping fosters. All she had to do was look at me with those pale green eyes, cry her sweet little meow, and reach her paw out to demand attention. I was all hers. The first year was a very heart-wrenching one. She was constantly sick. Once we finally got her healthy we found out that her half leg would have to be amputated. I was devastated, feeling that I had somehow failed her, but it became immediately obvious afterward that the surgery was the best thing for her. She blossomed.

Flutter is the smallest of my "tabby collection" (I have only tabbies - even my dog has tabby stripes) but has the biggest heart and commands attention from everyone in the house ... on her terms. She is vocal about her needs and I melt to hear her sweet meow. I am only too glad to give her the love she demands, in whatever manner she demands it. She is still very shy towards strangers, though once she knows you as a regular visitor, she'll come out and demand pettings from you, too.

I could go on all day long about how she is sweet, loving, funny, charming, beautiful... but I'd run out of adjectives and still never do her credit. I love this little girl more than I ever thought possible. I cannot imagine life without her; she changed my life in ways I have yet to recognise. All she did was flutter into my home one day last May and I'll never be the same.

    I'm glad I failed Fostering 101 (again).
