This
is Moo, so named because she resembles a small Holstein cow. I
adopted her eight years ago from a no-kill shelter, which is a good thing,
because she'd languished there for almost ten months. Her previous family
had to give her up when she became pregnant. Naturally, her kittens were
adopted before she was. Nobody seems to want a "used" cat, but I did. At
the time, my niece was three years old, and I wanted a cat that was sweet
and calm. Moo fit the bill.
At the time I adopted her, she was known as "Venus."
I think her previous family chose the name because she is the goddess of
love - always snuggling and licking and giving the occasional love bite.
Sometimes I think they should have called her "Imelda," as Moo
definitely has a thing for shoes. Whenever one of my friends comes over
and kicks off her shoes to be comfortable, Moo sticks her whole face in
the shoe and starts rubbing her cheeks against the leather
enthusiastically. Sometimes she falls asleep on the shoe. For the most
part she's peaceful, but occasionally she runs around my apartment with
a crazed look, jumping on furniture, leaping through the air, chasing
creatures only she can see-in general, doing the Kitty Olympics. But
when she sleeps, she snores softly, which I find charming and
comforting.
