A
month after my cat of 20 years had died, I stopped in at Petco,
looking to adopt a cat from Kitten Rescue. I told the representative I
wanted a cat that would be difficult to adopt. She pointed to Kerrigan
and said, "She's the one for you." Since she was laying down, I couldn't
see her legs. I told the representative that she was much too beautiful
and I couldn't image anyone not adopting her. Then Kerrigan stood up and
I saw that her back legs were cut off at the knee. She was born that
way. So, of course, I took her home.
She immediately bonded with Eddie, our other orange cat but it took a
while for her to get used to all the human attention. She brings us so
much joy. She loves to sit out on the enclosed balcony and watch the
hummingbirds. She doesn't like the feel of the concrete on her back legs
so we put a rug out for her. She has no trouble jumping on the furniture
and she has no problem keeping Eddie in his place. She runs like rabbit
around the house. She loves to play string and every morning will bring
me one of her stuffed mice and place it at foot of the bed. We are so
lucky to have her in our home!
