This
is my cat Cali. I originally came up with Cali because she is a
Calico cat from California, she is a.k.a.. Cali boo, Cali monster, etc.,
you know how all the nicknames go when you have an animal. I adopted
this little angel from the Long Beach Animal Shelter in Long Beach, CA.
My intention was to go and "just look" at possibly adopting a kitten,
because I have heard that adopting older cats can be hard, as they are
already set in their ways, and you really have no clue where they came
from. Well, I found myself wandering around the adult catteries and
walked into the second room- and there she was ... the cat that I had been
looking for my entire life. She came walking in and sat next to me, and
she just looked miserable being there with all the other cats, this cat
was meant to be loved all by herself. Well, I spent about two minutes
petting her, and without a second thought went and filled out all of the
paperwork so that I could be her new mommy. I found out that she was
found abandoned, starving, and pregnant and one year old walking the
streets of long beach. She had her kittens in a foster home, and they
got adopted out within one week of being there, but its so sad because
everybody wants a kitten, and not a cat.
Well, I brought my new little addition home to my apartment, and she
just turned into the most loving, affectionate animal that I have ever
known. I have had her now for three years, and she has been my little
angel every step of the way. I can always count on her being on the top
of the stairs running down to say hi to me. I think of the wonderful
years that we have ahead of us, and I can't stand the thought of her not
being here with me. Sometimes I think that it is much harder to lose an
animal than a human, as weird as that sounds. Cali gives me
unconditional love no matter what I look like, or what time or where. I
am so glad that I didn't listen to the people that told me to not adopt
a full grown cat, she has been awesome. I adopted a little kitten about
a year after adopting Cali, and you know it was sooooo much easier
having an animal that was already out of that darned baby stage.
I love my calico and I wouldn't change adopting her for the world. She
is the most spoiled princess, and I would not want her to feel any other
way. Cali deserves to be cat of the day because of everything that she
has been through in her short little existence, and how much love she
was given in return no matter what humans have done to her before me.
