Ikkyu
(it's pronounced "EQ") is fourteen and has been with me since he
was seven weeks old. I got him when I lived in Japan and that is where
he lived the first seven years of his life. We then moved to Chicago
where we lived three years, and then we moved to France a little over
four years ago. Aside from the major moves, he has also always travelled
with me. Every summer, we fly to Prince Edward Island, Canada, for our
seaside vacation!
Ikkyu has always been a one-person cat, completely devoted to me but not
too keen on anyone else. Even though he doesn't go outside, he still
gets to hone his skills as a hunter as we live in the country and there
are occasional mice in the house! He is now a senior cat and suffers
from diabetes and delicate kidneys, but he is really well cared for by
his vet, Christina, and very much enjoys life. By the way, he was named
for a famous 15th century Japanese Zen Buddhist monk!
