Miles
is a great cat. He is quite a character. He needs to have his
"cuddle time" with us every night when we sit down on the couch. He
jumps up and settles in on my lap and goes to sleep, purring very
loudly. Once he's asleep, he is almost unmovable - he sleeps like a
rock! He has bonded very closely to my husband, Matt. They are buddies.
Miles will lay down on any paperwork Matt is trying to work on at home
to get his attention. When Miles jumps up on Matt's lap, he rubs his
face on Matt's beard - it's so cute when he does that!
Miles likes to watch birds in the trees outside. His favorite fun
activity is hanging out in the backyard, sunning himself on the patio.
Miles insists on going out every day, even when there is snow on the
ground. He will meow at the door and will rub up against me and, if
necessary, bite me until he gets his wish.
Two and a half years ago, we noticed that Miles was having trouble
walking. The vet diagnosed him with a cancerous tumor called a
fibrosarcoma just above his left rear foot. The tumor was removed, but
it came back within months. Our vet said the best course of action to
prevent the tumor from coming back or spreading was to amputate the leg.
We were devastated. It was a very difficult decision to make, but we
decided to put Miles through the surgery. He had a few rough months
after the surgery, learning to walk on three legs and also had phantom
limb pain that bothered him. Now he is doing great! He is just the same
old Miles as he always was. He still runs out the door when we come home
with the groceries. He's just as fast a runner as he was before. We are
so happy that we did not have him put down and that he has recovered so
well from the surgery. He is a gift to us every day. He has taught us a
lot by his amazing spirit.
