Rocky
is seven and a half years old. He has been a very special friend
since he came to live with me in August 1999. He is part Mackerel Tabby
and was abandoned in a cardboard box at a truck stop in Northern Quebec.
A friend saw this little grey kitten and found out the little boy was on
his own. This is when Rocky moved to Ottawa, Ontario.
I already had a one-year old cat, but there was no way I could turn down
those eyes, that loud purr, the bright red tongue, or those oversized
"shoes" he kept dabbing me with. He weighed in at two pounds when he came
to me. He was about four months old at the time, and undernourished. He was
an awesome little kitten who loved playtime, which was all the time. He
still tries to get along with the older cat, but it takes two and she
still isn't ready. But, Rocky has two new companions, a brother and
sister, also grey tabbies. His paternal instinct kicked in and he washed
and cleaned the little ones, let them curl up with him, taught them the
'Rocky' way of doing things, and is still very playful.
He has been a loving, trusting, kind and gentle companion. Rocky enjoys
every moment to its fullest. He loves his outdoor time when he and I go
out for walks together. It is a special time and I let him know every
chance I get, how loved he is, with lots of hugs, kisses, daily
brushing, pampering, and playtime. He has not met a treat he did not love.
Rocky purrs loudly any time I talk to or go near him. He sleeps on his
back and loves to curl up with me on cold winter nights. He is the essence
of resilience, courage, grace, unconditional love and true friendship. I
am so glad he is in my life and I hope we have many more years together.
