Miette
is a special calico cat with an unusual half-black, half-orange
face. She lives in sunny Cape Coral, Florida, with her Mummy, Daddy,
much older human sister, and younger feline brother Winston. Her sister
picked out her uncommon name - in French, it means "sweet, small thing."
We adopted Miette from a cat rescue shelter when she was only about ten
weeks old, and she quickly adapted to her new home and family. She
rapidly learned how to come to come when we called her name, especially
when it was suppertime! She also established her own favorite sleeping
places - her sister's bed, in a corner of the loveseat against a pillow,
and under the sofa being just a few of them. Back then, she was very
skinny - we used to call her a "sausage on legs!"
Miette has many odd personality quirks, the strangest one of them being
a jump/flip that she does when she gets excited. She will leap a few
feet into the air and perform a strange sort of backflip, much to the
delight of guests! She started spontaneously doing that when she was a
kitten, and since then we have trained her to spring into the air when
we say "jump!" and make an upwards motion with our hands.
Our baby girl has other peculiar traits as well. One of them is her
tendency to curl her tail into an almost complete circle when lying
down. Another is the curious way she likes to look out some of our
windows - when looking out of a window that is very near the ground, she
will put her front paws on the windowsill and her back paws on the
ground, then lay down like that! She also likes to "chirp" at birds,
lizards, and other critters that she sees out the windows or outside our
screened-in porch.
Miette likes to play with a variety of toys, her favorites being an old
wig, pencils, assorted catnip toys, and the furry octopus that she is
seen playing with in the picture above. She has an easy life of
sleeping, eating, playing, and just plain relaxing; her only complaint
might be that her younger brother, who has established himself as the
king, likes to annoy her (in typical little brother fashion!) by nipping
at her tail or back to urge her into an unwanted play fight.
Miette is a sweet cat, and is well loved by her family. She likes to sit
on our laps when we are on the computer, and Daddy always brings "his
little girl" in to sleep with him. She's also her sister's personal
alarm clock - she jumps on bed at just the right time and meows until
"sissie" wakes up!
