My
kitten's name is Tatiana Minou and she is a short-haired tuxedo
kitten who turned five months old on July 22nd.
My little Minou was a Mother's Day gift from my daughter, who knew that
I'd been wanting a tuxedo kitten both for me and as company for my twelve
year old male cat, Boru. She was adopted from Hull Seaside Animal
Rescue when she was about nine weeks old. Minou was fostered along with
her other siblings and mom by a volunteer for the shelter and was named
Lucky because she almost died at birth. The quick-thinking foster mom
saved her life. When I got her I thought long and hard about a new name
for her and ended up calling her Tatiana. But it's such a mouthful for
such a little girl that I mostly called her Baby. Then one day I
thought of the name Minou, which means "little cat" and it seemed so
cute and perfect, so that became her "middle name". I call her by all
of them so she's probably a little confused as to what her name actually is!
Minou is an absolute joy for me but is a tiny terrorist when it comes to
her big brother Boru. When she sees him she attacks him in many ways:
she'll stand on her back legs waving her two front paws in the air at
him, or she'll lurk in a corner and leap out at him, or she'll throw
herself across his back, or she'll play with his tail, or she'll run at
him, leap in the air in front of him, twist sideways and karate kick him
in the face. Needless to say, Boru is not too thrilled with his little
ninja sister. Can't say I blame him. I'm hoping that when she becomes
a grown up lady cat that they'll get along better.
In the meantime, she's just a perfect kitten. She sleeps with me in my
bed at night and refuses to get out of bed in the morning until I do.
If I sleep too late for her, she'll mew and lick my nose until I get up.
Works every time! If I talk to her she opens her mouth wide in a silent
mew, she purrs the instant I pet her or pick her up, and she follows me
around the house. I have to be careful when I'm standing anywhere
because she'll appear at my feet and just sit there companionably right
next to me. But she's so quiet that if I don't mind where I'm going
I'll bump right into her. She's so brash and bold she's even made
friends with my daughter's French bulldog Kermit, who outweighs her by
about 33 pounds! She's fresh and funny and often a little wild woman.
She's the best gift I've ever received.
