This
is my long haired, female Tortoiseshell, Feliné Catrisse.
Although spelled like feline, I pronounce it Felina. I ponder for weeks
before I name my pets and I like that her name denotes her species,
Feline and CATrisse. She will be five years old in June and was adopted
from our local shelter as a nine-week-old kitten. She was so pitiful
looking, I felt if I didn't rescue her, perhaps she would be euthanized.
From a homely, scrawny, unkept mess with a rat's tail, she grew into a
beautiful, loving companion. Whenever I sit down on the sofa,
Feliné is right there to curl up on me. When I am in the rest room,
she sits outside the door and waits and sometimes runs her paw under the
door so that I am aware of her impatience. At night, she sneaks into our
room and curls up on my hip or arm when I am lying on my side. Of
course, she has to "knead" her spot before she gets comfy, and she is
not declawed, so ouch!! Then if I try to turn over, forgetting she is
there, she tries to hang on and more ouches! But I love her so much! She
seems to have retained that kitten playfulness and sometimes drives our
sixteen year old calico, CATurah Louise, nuts. I keep a close eye on her,
because Caturah is just too old to put up with the aggravation. We keep
squirt bottles in each room of the house, which we use to keep our
animals in line and its not too often you actually have to give anyone a
squirt. All we have to do is reach for it or maybe pick it up and aim. I
am glad that years ago I found this harmless way of keeping order with
our animals. Feliné is a special girl and we all live together in
the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin.
