Owen, the Cat of the Day
Name: Owen
Age: One year old
Gender: Male
Kind: Domestic short hair
Home: Richmond, Vigirnia, USA

Owen turns a year old sometime around April '08. His exact birth date is not known, as he was born in the woods to a feral mom. It was estimated that he and his siblings were about three months old when we took them in. My neighbor and I fed him and his family for about a month, and then started humanely trapping them. His mother was spayed and has gone to a forever home with lots of land as she was not able to be tamed, but she will have a steady meal and will not have to have kittens again. I fostered Owen and two of his siblings, and Owen and his brother were both ill with upper respiratory infections. They looked pitiful and would've probably stopped eating because they weren't able to smell and eventually would have passed without medical treatment. It was up to about 90 degrees outside when we trapped them and it was getting harder for them to breathe. Owen also had an umbilical hernia, and I opted to have his stomach fixed before he was to be adopted to his forever home, so for that reason he stayed under my care longer than his siblings ... and he won my heart.

I already had two cats and wasn't looking for a third, but he was just too handsome to let go. He is so mischevious, he is always finding something to get into. He definitely keeps me entertained and busy cleaning up after him...he likes to sort my bills, helps with the laundry by getting into the washing machine (of course while it's off), helps makes sure my potted plant has even soil... you name it, he does it. I can't imagine not having him in my life..He is definitely one of a kind. He seems very grateful for the life he now gets to live, instead of living the life of a homeless tomcat. Owen and I are very grateful for Cat Adoption and Rescue Efforts here in Richmond, VA for the generous financial support for medical treatment that he and his cat family received. CARE and its volunteers give many hours and lots of love to save, rehabilitate, and place previously unwanted animals into loving permanent homes.
