We
found this tiny kitten only two days old complete with umbilical
cord at our local Lowe's in the garden center down in a pallet of bags
of potting soil. My son and I heard a loud crying cat sound and
followed it to where she was. She had been abandoned by her mother in
the hustle and bustle of the normal day to day busyness of the garden
center. After talking with several employees and knowing she would die
if left there, I took her home for our family to care for her.
One of our daughters got everything all set up at home for our arrival.
We weighed her that day and she was just four ounces and could fit in one
hand. Our daughter set a timer and stayed up with her for hourly
feedings round the clock for the first two weeks gradually working up to
four hours between feedings by six weeks. She really liked her bottle and
at first we thought she would never give it up for regular kitten food!
The Internet proved to be a very useful tool to let us know what needs
to be done for an orphaned kitten at each stage of their development. We
are very happy to say that Phoebe is now a whopping 2 1/2 pounds and a
very healthy and playful kitten at two months old! Our family is enjoying
so much watching this kitten grow and change from a tiny, helpless
orphan kitty to a fun loving kitten with a lot of personality. :-)
