Tell
us what makes your pet special! Thumbie came to us while we were
vacationing in VT in 2005. We noticed her at night, eating in the shadows
at night when the racoons came by. After unsuccessfully putting up flyers
around the neighborhood and asking neighbors, we finally decided that she
was probably a dump ... an unfortunate problem there. As time went on, we
realized that the cat was decimating our chipmunk population! Winter was
coming on and the nights were getting colder ... we worried about what
would happen to the cat. We began luring it up to the steps with food and
after a week were able to bring it into the camp. We kept it isolated from
our cats, but now what to do? The local shelter refused to take it! The
time had come to leave for California. We had but two choices - leave it
with a local farmer or take her with us. By now we had fallen in love with
her so it wasn't a hard decision :)
Thumbie is a real love. She is a snuggler ... she climbs right up and
nuzzles under your chin. Plus, she is hyperdactyl ... she has 24 toes!
Her front paws look like pot holders! She has extra toes on all paws.
When we arrived at home we were afraid she would have trouble fitting
into the pecking order with the other cats. Not a problem! One bat of
her paw and she gained instant respect! One of the cat's favorite games
is kitty soccer on the hardwood floors. Thumbie, with her big mitts, is
the all time pro!
