Pluto
the cat thinks he's a dog or a baby. He waits at the window and
meows to announce the arrival of his favorite people. He gives cat
kisses and wraps his paws around our necks.
Pluto is a very affectionate cat - more like a dog than a cat. When his
"boy" found Pluto up for adoption at a local pet store, the boy stuck
his face on the cage and Pluto "grabbed" his face with his paws and
kissed him. When his boy would leave for school, Pluto would sit at the
window and mournfully meow. Pluto seemed to have an internal clock that
told him when his boy was supposed to get home from school, and he sat at
the window waiting for him. Much to Pluto's delight, the first thing
his boy would do when he got home is lay on the floor so Pluto could
climb on his chest and kiss his face like a dog. When his boy was
younger, Pluto would sit on his lap at the dinner table (like a baby).
His boy would hold Pluto with one hand and eat with the other, sharing
his dinner, feeding Pluto from his fork.
For several years Pluto's "mom" worked from home, much to Pluto's
delight. There's a "Pluto chair" in the office where he parked and
slept most of the day, except when he was walking across the keyboard or
crawling into mom's lap for some attention. If anyone sits in Pluto's
chair, he senses it, no matter where he is in the house, and comes into
the office, climbs on the shelves and starts knocking things off. When
the interloper gets the picture and vacates the chair, he perches in the
chair, spits out a meow voicing his irritation, and stares at the
offender. He's none too pleased with the fact that mom now leaves the
house to go to work. When his people come home, he meows loudly as if
to say, "where the heck have you been?" If the windows are open, his
meow can be heard as we're pulling into the driveway, before getting out
of the car ~ we call it "the cat alarm." Pluto loves to be carried
around like a baby, either with is paws around his person's neck,
kissing their ear or chin, or belly up like a newborn.
Pluto is a "people cat" who loves to talk. He responds to almost every
question posed to him with a meow. He loves being in the bathroom when
someone is taking a bath or shower, just to talk. If anyone dare take a
bath or shower without him, he sits outside the bathroom door and
cries. He tries to get people to feel sorry for him by playing "poor
abused kitty" ~ passing out on the floor, belly up, paws extended,
moaning. He does that if the air conditioner isn't set at the right
temperature, if his food dish is empty, or he's not getting enough
attention. We bought him cat toys but he's not interested. Perhaps he
finds it more entertaining watching his people play with the cat toys.
Pluto is a wimpy, indoor cat who is afraid of birds when they fly too
close to the window. A portly fellow, his favorite pastime is eating.
The most exercise he gets is racing to his food dish. He's a little
neurotic too. He understands what suitcases mean and has kitty
meltdowns when he sees us packing. His response to stress is tearing
out the fur on his back end ~ his favorite place to leave piles of cat
hair is on mom's pillow. Pluto is a proud new uncle - his "sister" just
adopted a Great Dane. Uncle Pluto can't wait to meet his nephew
Franklin the Great Dane. That should be entertaining.
