Alexander
is like most cats, except he is my special friend. I found
Alexander at the SPCA when he was twelve weeks old. He walked right over to
me and bit my finger. I took him out of his cage and into the "get
acquainted room" where he bit me two more times. I knew I could not leave
him, and in the next hour, home with me he went.
I started taking Alexander outside on a leash right away. At first he
would just lay on the sidewalk, wondering about the harness he was
wearing. But in a few weeks he started to explore, and has never
stopped. Every morning out we go for our four a.m. walk. Then out again
when I get home from work, and another trip after diner. Soon we had
made friends with all the people and dogs and cats also out in the
neighborhood.
Alexander's first week home he discovered a large cooked shrimp I had
toss out in the trash after diner. I heard the noise of the trash bag
falling over and when I entered the kitchen there was Alex with this
giant shrimp in his mouth, it was as big as his head! He did not want to
let go of it! Ever since then I have boiled Alex two shrimp for diner
every night, they are his favorite treat.
Because of how special Alex is, he has made me a better person. I try
and give as much time and money as possible to animal rescue groups. To
celebrate Alex's birthday every June 25 we make a donation in the name
of all Alexander's friends he has made during his walks. I look forward
to many years of early morning walks in all weather with my friend,
Alexander The Cat.
