Jade
was a breeding queen at a breeding unit, delivering nine litters
before her retirement. She was given the name Jade by the staff of the
unit presumably because of her eyes. Having lived in a facility all her
life she took some time to adapt to "life on the outside". It was an
experience to watch an adult cat experiencing things like grass for the
first time, let me tell you!
Jade was deeply fascinated with bubbles rising in a bottle of mineral
water the first time she saw that, and was totally flabbergasted when
she saw her first bird (even now she is a tad scared of them). Also she
mistook balled up pairs of socks for some type of rodent, that needed to
be killed.
Now Jade spends her days sleeping on our bed, going into the neighbors
garden to catch little lizards known as "skinks" and asking us for food.
She has relaxed considerably from those first days. She is not one of
those cats that lies on you, though. Instead she'll roll over for a
scratch on her tummy or she hop up on the couch and rub up against you
before settling down for another nap. She's a special cat, and we are
glad she is ours.
